Turnkey Websites
I’ve been working on increasing my online income by setting up new websites. I’ve started some of the websites from scratch with a brand new domain name. For others, I have spent money to buy an aged domain with a high PR and used that to build a website. And lastly, I am trying my hand at buying a pre-built turnkey website. Many people want to know whether or not they should buy a turnkey website for sale, so I thought I’d share my experience about buying a turnkey website.
What is a Turnkey Website?
A turnkey website is one that is all ready set up for you and ready to start earning money from day 1. It already has the template set up and usually has at least 10 pages or posts already on the website, complete with images.
These turn key websites are usually a brand new website that will go live when you pick a domain name for the site. Alternatively you can also buy an established website that someone else has already owned and it is already up and running and is their business. They are selling the website. These websites usually sell for a price reflective of the income that the website is already earning.
What I am buying is a pre-built website that comprised of about 10 pages with the design already laid out. The articles are PLR articles (private label rights), which means the article was purchased and can be used for any purpose. The PLR articles are usually sold in batches so many website might have the same articles on them. So if you are buying a website that uses PLR articles for the content, you’ll want to either rewrite the articles or add to them to make them more unique. You don’t want to have articles on your site that lots of other websites have on their sites because Google will see this as being duplicate content and won’t value your website as high as if you had only unique content on your site.

The buying process is really easy. You buy the website on eBay and then the seller will email you a link to a form that you need to fill out in order for them to set the website up for you. The website I purchased included the domain name, which I already had in mind. If you don’t know what domain name you want, they had a few tools you could use to help you pick one out. Then they also asked for your id numbers for various affiliate programs that are included in the websites in various places. This is how the websites are designed to make money. They incorporate Google adsense, Infolinks, Amazon Associates, clickbank products, and a few other money making products. They will tell you how to sign up for these if you are not already a member, and if you already use these you just give them your id numbers.
The purchase of these turnkey websites does not include the hosting. If you need hosting, they have a hosting plan for you to purchase separately (another way for them to make money). If you already have your own hosting, like I do, you can either have them install the website files and database on your hosting server for you for a fee of $25. If you want to do this yourself, then they will send you the files for no additional charge. I will be installing the files myself and I already have a hosting account so there weren’t any additional charges for me. I’ll update this post after it’s done to let you know how easy it was to install the files and database on my cPanel myself.
What I plan to do with this turnkey website
First of all, you should know that, as they state in their auction, they normally sell around 40 copies of the same prebuilt turnkey website before they redesign the articles and images to make a new website. So you need to know that their are other websites out there that will look EXACTLY like your site unless you make changes to it yourself after you receive the files.
I plan to rewrite the articles that are posted on the site, paying special attention to rewriting the titles of every post and page. Since the posts and pages use header tags that Google pays a lot of attention to, I want to make sure my header tags are unique and different than any of the other sites that may have been purchased by other people. I also plan to add my own articles to the site.
If I’m doing so much work to rewrite the articles given to me, wouldn’t it have just been easier to start my own website from scratch. I don’t think so. The way I look at it, I would be staring at my computer screen wondering what I should write about. This way I can read the PLR article provided and it basically gives me ideas of what to write about.
Plus the turnkey website has the whole template already laid out and set up. It usually takes me hours to fiddle with the template to get everything set up the way I want it. I have to get the ads where I want them and the widgets all set up. This has it all set up for me.
